what is the employee retention credit ?
The Employee Retention Credit is the largest legislation relief effort offered by the government in attempts to stabilize the US small business community and promote job creation. It is a refundable tax credit designed to give employers incentives to pay their employees throughout the uncertainty that the pandemic has brought. The tax credit ranges from 50 percent on the first $10,000 of wages to 70 percent on wages over $10,000 up to $10 million total from March 13, 2020, until December 31, 2020.
Eligibility
To be fully eligible, businesses must document applicable costs during a covered period and show evidence of economic hardship. To clarify, eligible businesses are those that are operating (not closed) and who experienced either a full or partial suspension of their operations due to government orders, or they experienced a substantial decline of over 50 percent in gross revenue compared to the same quarter of the prior year.
